Madeline Fleming, Co-Managing Editor
Madeline "Maddie" Fleming is a fourth-year student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary. In 2024, Maddie worked as a research assistant for a professor in the Department of Global Development Studies and a professor in the Department of Political Science. Her research interests centre on resource governance, strategic studies, and African politics. She hopes to one day pursue a career in the foreign service. As co-managing editor of Insights, Maddie hopes to present her peers with an avenue to showcase their unique contributions to the field.
Rob Huebert, Ph.D., Department Sponsor
Rob Huebert is a professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary. He also is the interim director of the Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies. He was appointed as a member to the Canadian Polar Commission (now renamed Canada Polar Knowledge) for a term lasting from 2010 to 2015. He is senior fellow with the Laurier MacDonald Institute; a fellow with the Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies; and is a research fellow with the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. Dr. Huebert has taught at Memorial University, Dalhousie University, and the University of Manitoba. He publishes on the issue of Canadian Arctic Security, Maritime Security, and Canadian Defence. His work has appeared in International Journal; Canadian Foreign Policy; Isuma- Canadian Journal of Policy Research and Canadian Military Journal. He was co-editor of Canada and the Changing Arctic: Sovereignty, Security and Stewardship; Commercial Satellite Imagery and United Nations Peacekeeping and Breaking Ice: Canadian Integrated Ocean Management in the Canadian North. He also comments on Canadian security and Arctic issues in both the Canadian and international media.
Jordan Lee, Co-Managing Editor
Jordan Lee is a fourth-year student at the University of Calgary, pursuing a combined degree in International Relations and Political Science with a minor in Security Studies. In 2025, Jordan was able to publish his paper Bears and Dragons in the North: An Analysis of Sino-Russian Economic Relations in the Arctic in the first issue of Insights. Besides being interested in Arctic security, his research interests also include strategic studies and outer space security. Outside of academics, Jordan is an avid rock climber and coffee enthusiast/snob. As co-managing editor of Insights, Jordan wishes to showcase the talent and unique insights (no pun intended) of undergraduate students, not only at the University of Calgary, but also at other universities.
Lauren Clavelle, Co-Managing Editor
Lauren Clavelle is completing her final year of Political Science at the University of Calgary. Her research focuses on post-colonial and decolonial theories, Indigenous governance, and public policy. Lauren worked as a research assistant for the University of Calgary's School of Public Policy in 2022 and was a recipient of the PURE Award in 2024. She currently works for the Tahltan First Nation non-profit organisation, TWILD. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys reading, writing, and travelling. She is also a personal paparazzi for her tuxedo cat, Alastor.

Hunter Holt-Barry, 2024-2025
