Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

Author Guidelines

Text should be typed using size 12 Times New Roman, double-spaced. All pages should be numbered sequentially. Each line of the text should also be numbered. The article file should be in .DOC, .RTF or .PDF format. Figures can be submitted separately or as part of the manuscript file. 

Citations in the text. These should take the form of Levine (2000) or (Lyons and Schwartz 2001) and be ordered chronologically. Papers by three or more authors, even on first mention, should be abbreviated to the name of the first author followed by et al. (e.g., Dorado et al. 2001).

The literature cited hould be arranged alphabetically. The requested format is as follows:

Books

Otto, S. P. and T. Day. 2007. A Biologist's Guide to Mathematical Modeling. Princeton Unviersity Press.

Chapters in books

Rathcke, B. J. 1983. Competition and facilitation among plants for pollination. Pages 305-338 in L. A. Real, editor. Pollination biology. Academic Press, New York.

Research papers

Bartomeus, I., M. Vilà, and L. Santamaría. 2008. Contrasting effects of invasive plants in plant-pollinator networks. Oecologia 155:761-770.

We encourage the inclusion of supplementary information. Additional documents can be uploaded as separate files.

Functional Diversity publishes articles in English. We do love other languages though and encourage the inclusion of an additional Abstract in the language of your choice. We will strive to have it peer-reviewed and included in the article. Should you require English language editing that maintains the scientific integrity of the article, please contact our Managing Editor to arrange a quote for this service.

Upon acceptance of your article, Functional Diversity currently charges no publication fees to cover charges for maintaining Open Access status. We are committed to keeping open science communication available to everyone.
